While partygoing Magpies forward Jordan de Goey continues to attract scrutiny over his actions in leaked footage shot in a Bali nightclub last night, club officials at Collingwood have been slammed for letting him go in the first place.

Collingwood issued a statement on Saturday morning saying they were aware of the footage of De Goey in a Bali nighclub, which appears to show him attempt to expose the breasts of a female companion at one point.

De Goey is not accused of any wrongdoing, however his behaviour has been labelled 'not acceptable' by AFL great Garry Lyon and criticised by various other commentators.

Former premiership star Kane Cornes raised concerns about the trip last week, which was allowed during Collingwood's mid-season break.

The latest furore comes after De Goey was arrested in New York last December, ultimately agreeing to undergo alcohol and anger management counselling as part of a plea deal with American authorities.

He was also fined $10,000 by the AFL, and for former Geelong player Cameron Mooney this was reason enough for Collingwood to forbid their player from travelling overseas for the time being.

“I am staggered the club let him go. Whatever happens from here, Collingwood it’s on you. It’s the stupidest decision I’ve ever seen a football club make,” Mooney told Fox Footy.

“Whether he was going to be stupid or not, just the fact that they let him get on that plane. You’ve made your bed Collingwood, you’re idiots.

“Every player has to tell their club where they're going in their break. Someone has gone, ‘Bali, De Goey, yep tick. Off you go champ’.”

Having earlier questioned the decision to let De Goey travel to Bali, Cornes said on SEN that Collingwood officials had declined his requests to come on the show to discuss the footage.

Cornes was also highly critical of De Goey's behaviour.

“It’s one of the most ridiculous things that I’ve seen for a long time, he clearly doesn’t have the capacity to make informed decisions for himself that are in the benefit of his career for the situation that he’s in," Cornes said.

“You can’t get away with doing what he did in that nightclub and the footage that has been shown in 2022, you can’t, you can’t treat people like that."

Latest controversy for Jordan de Goey leaves Collingwood future unclear

De Goey falls off-contract with the Magpies at season's end and was permitted by the club to travel to Bali during their 12-day mid-season bye.

But the move sparked outrage among AFL pundits, with Collingwood's 1990 premiership captain Tony Shaw among them.

"He's probably not a smart person ... that's twice now," Shaw told Melbourne radio station 3AW.

"If I'm the football club, I would say, do you understand what you have done?

"Even though you don't know because you're probably stupid and you don't understand that this has been seen in the light it's been in Melbourne."

Retired St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt labelled De Goey as selfish.

"You always get a pretty good indication of someone's professionalism and how much they care about their career when you look at the choices they make," Riewoldt told Fox Footy.

"Every player has the right to go abroad during the break.

"But it's a choice ... Jordan chose indulgence over discipline in this case.

" ... Unfortunately it seems to be a pretty regular theme for him that he prefers pampering over discipline from a football point of view."

Riewoldt's fellow Fox Footy commentator, Geelong premiership player Cameron Mooney, said the Magpies were "idiots" for allowing De Goey to travel.

"I am staggered the club let him go," Mooney said on Fox Footy.

"Whatever happens from here, Collingwood, it's on you.

"It's the stupidest decision I have ever seen a football club make."
