One of Hollywood's most-talked about couples has to be Aaron Taylor-Johnson Sam Taylor-Johnson. The actor and director have been together for over 10 years, after getting engaged exactly a year after meeting, and they're still going as strong.
Notorious for being one of the most private couples in Hollywood, these two tend to keep things pretty under wraps, but when they do talk about each other in interviews they're always gushing with love. So cute!
Let's take a look back at the timeline of Aaron and Sam's relationship together, from their first meeting to their wedding, and their life as a family.
2008: Aaron and Sam first meet
Aaron (then Johnson) and Sam (then Taylor-Wood) meet on the set of the film Nowhere Boy, a biopic about a young John Lennon, with Aaron playing the lead and Sam directing for the first time.
Despite the age gap between them (with Aaron being 19 at the time and Sam being 42), the couple hit it off, announcing their engagement just one year later.
October 2009: The couple announce their engagement
Aaron and Sam announce their engagement at the Nowhere Boy film premiere in October 2009, with Aaron later revealing that he proposed exactly "a year to the minute after we met".
Following the announcement, Aaron said their loved ones were "really lovely and supportive" of their relationship, with Sam adding, "They know how intensely we feel." However, the couple didn't actually marry until almost three years later.
January 2010: Sam is pregnant with their first child
Just months after announcing their engagement, Aaron and Sam confirm that they are expecting their first child together. A spokesperson for the couple says, "We can confirm that Sam is pregnant with her and Aaron's first child. Both are very, very happy," The Daily Mail reported.
July 2010: They welcome their first daughter
The couple welcome their first baby girl together, named Wylda Rae.
Confirming the news on Twitter, Aaron's Kick Ass co-star Christopher Mintz-Plasse wrote: "Crazier news. Aaron Johnson's baby was born!! So exciting!" An official statement released on behalf of the couple said they were "happy to announce the birth of their daughter".
While Wylda Rae is Aaron and Sam's first child together, Sam already has two daughters, Angelica and Jessie, from her previous marriage to art dealer Jay Jopling.
November 2010: Sam speaks out on their decision to start a family
Revealing details on their family life, Sam tells Harper's Bazaar, "Aaron, almost before anything started between us, said he wanted kids. He was very clear about wanting a family.
"We hardly go out now, it's just us. You know what I used to be like. Aaron has brought a set of values I didn't even know I was looking for, family values.
"He is more grounded. He has been getting work offers which he has turned down because he wants to be here for the crucial beginning months of Wylda's life."
January 2012: Aaron and Sam welcome their second child
With daughter Wylda Rae now 18 months old, Aaron and Sam welcome their second child together, another baby girl named Romy Hero.
A rep for the couple confirmed the news to PEOPLE, saying in a statement, "Both mother and daughter are well."
21 June 2012: They finally tie the knot!
Almost three years after announcing their engagement, Aaron and Sam finally get married!
The wedding took place at a church in Somerset, with the couple officially changing their surnames to the double-barrelled Taylor-Johnson.
Remaining as private as ever, a statement released on behalf of the newlyweds read, "There will be no further comment or detail released."
According to reports from Hello!, Elton John and even Beyoncé are thought to have been among wedding guests attending the celebrations at Somerset country retreat, Babington House.
April 2015: Aaron reveals how he felt about changing his name
With the couple keeping things as under wraps as usual since their wedding, Aaron reveals how much it meant to him to take part of Sam's name following their marriage, making his surname Taylor-Johnson.
"It was so important to me," he told The Guardian, revealing how he wanted his name changed for his film Savages in 2012, but it was too late for posters to be altered.
For Anna Karenina, also released in 2012, Aaron says he fought for Taylor-Johnson to be on the poster this time around. "I said: 'I want it changed! This is important.'" When it was, he says, "It felt beautiful. It felt right." So sweet!
June 2017: Sam speaks out on her and Aaron's age gap
Despite it being almost ten years since the couple met, Sam responds to raised eyebrows over the couple's age difference, saying, "If I gave a second thought to other people, I would be the unhappiest person, probably still in a miserable marriage.
"People like to talk about it. I'm like, 'Yeah, but it works better than my last marriage.' It's lasted longer than a lot of my friends' marriages," she tells The Hollywood Reporter.
November 2019: The couple give a rare double interview
In a rare double interview to discuss their film A Million Little Pieces, Aaron and Sam reveal more details on their instant connection, while posing for some pretty loved-up couple shots.
"I remember it very, very clearly. I know exactly what she was wearing. This white shirt that she still has, that I love. It definitely changed my life, though not in the way I expected," Aaron tells Harper's Bazaar.
In the same interview, Sam also reveals how Aaron told her he was going to marry her once they finished filming Nowhere Boy. "We were very professional through the entire film... But everyone on set knew. And as soon as we finished, he told me he was going to marry me. We had never been on a date, or even kissed."
Aaron goes on to reveal exactly how he proposed, saying, "And a year to the minute after we met, exactly one year to the minute, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me." Sam adds, "In the 10 years we’ve been together, we’ve only been apart for maybe two or three days."
June 2021: Aaron and Sam get matching tattoos
That's one way to make it last forever. The pair followed in Travis Barker's footsteps and had each other's names tattooed across their chest, with Aaron getting 'Sam' next to a hummingbird and Sam getting 'Aaron' down her collarbone.
"Captured a healed hummingbird on Aaron and added some love ✍🏼 for Sam ✨❤️," the tattoo artist wrote.
22 June, 2022: They renew their wedding vows
Sam and Aaron renew their wedding vows and celebrate their 10-year anniversary. "We renewed our vows to one another and confessed our love in front of our nearest and dearest friends and family it was a celebration of love and joy!" he wrote on Instagram.
"A decade of marriage. It was a magical unforgettable day and the sun did not stop shining on us both.. we are blessed beyond belief. ❤️ Sammy you are my love, my life, my soulmate, my wife, my world!"
19 January, 2023: False cheating rumours surface
Aaron’s name starts trending due to totally false rumors that he cheated on Sam during the Bullet Train press tour. Said rumuors are easily debunkable, so head this way.
14 August, 2023: He gives a rare interview about their relationship
Aaron touches on his relationship with Sam in a new interview with Esquire, saying "I’m trying to be as honest as possible. I’ve probably talked to you more about my kids and Sam than I have with anybody. I’ve got really nothing to hide, and I’m secure in what we have. But I’m not going to unlock things that are actually precious to me.”
