Aaron Finch blows up over another bizarre dismissal
Two days after being bowled on a switch hit gone wrong, Aaron Finch’s impact on the Big Bash final was cut short by another odd dismissal.
After the Stars won the toss and sent the Renegades in to bat in the Melbourne derby at Docklands, Finch watched Marcus Harris (12 runs off 10 balls) and Sam Harper (six off seven) fall early.
Finch himself was on 13 runs off 10 balls when he was run out at the non-striker’s end – off Jackson Bird’s shoe.
The Renegades skipper was in decent nick and will rue the unfortunate dismissal, though as Damien Fleming noted on Channel 7 the wicket was avoidable if Finch had backed up.
“There’s no unluckier dismissal in cricket, is there? Run out at the bowler’s end,” Fleming said.
Clearly frustrated, Finch twice smashed a plastic chair with his bat after leaving the field.
Part of me thinks, they shouldn’t be filming the tunnel or the rooms after a batsman’s dismissal…. the other part has a huge amount of respect for Aaron Finch just destroying a plastic chair with a $1000 cricket bat…. #BBLFinal

Fair play to that plastic chair staying in one piece after Aaron Finch gave it a bit of violence on his way down the tunnel #BBL08Final #BBL08

After a long time, saw Aaron Finch getting frustrated after getting out. Just smashed the chair. I can feel for him. #BBLFinals

Finally Aaron Finch has middled one, too bad it was on his way to the dressing room #BBLFinal

He is likely to face a fine from Cricket Australia after being caught in the act.
“I can’t think of many worse (ways to be dismissed), especially when he’s just starting to find the middle,” Ricky Ponting said of the run out.
It was not what Finch wanted after his start in the semi-final win was stopped on 44 runs when he was out bowled.

Renegades fall short of big total
Dan Christian and Tom Cooper did their best but the hosts could only manage 5-145 off their 20 overs, leaving the door open for a Stars victory.
The middle-order batsmen combined for an 80-run stand but it came off 9.4 overs.
Spin bowlers Adam Zampa and Sandeep Lamichhane were key for the Stars as they put together a combined line of 2-37 off eight overs.
80 for the sixth wicket between Cooper & Christian gets @RenegadesBBL to 5/145.
