Race car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. is the new 'Bachelor'
Race car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. has been tapped as the star of the 22nd season of “The Bachelor” on ABC.
The announcement was made Thursday on “Good Morning America.”
Luyendyk Jr., the son of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk, has competed in the Indy Lights series, among other circuits.
Luyendyk Jr. appeared in Season 8 of “The Bachelorette” and finished as first runner-up, just short of winning the heart of Emily Maynard.
The 35-year-old hopes to be luckier in love this time around with at least one of 25 women who'll be competing for his affection.
"Obviously there’s got to be that chemistry there," he said, per ABC.com. "Emily and I had it previously, and I’m hoping to find that type of love, for sure."
"I just kind of went in with an open mind, open heart," he added of his decision to become the Bachelor. "It just kind of hit me right now that I’m here."
