Sea Eagles claim second golden-point victory of 2017 over Raiders

Manly Sea Eagles secured a golden-point win over Canberra Raiders for the second time this season as they claimed a 21-20 NRL victory at Brookvale Oval on Sunday.

The Sea Eagles were 20-18 winners in Canberra in April after the teams were all square at the end of 80 minutes and it was a similar tale in their latest meeting.

Dylan Walker – the man whose penalty goal settled that last encounter between the sides – fittingly opened the scoring on this occasion, exploiting a gap in the Raiders defence to touch down.

Blake Austin responded for the visitors, but tries from Martin Taupau and Jorge Taufua put daylight between the sides, before Daly Cherry-Evans ran on to a Walker grubber kick to give the home side a 20-6 half-time lead.

The Raiders fought back through a pair of Jordan Rapana tries and both teams had scores ruled out before Jarrod Croker levelled matters with a penalty at the death.

But the fightback proved to be in vain, as Cherry-Evans split the posts with a field goal early in the additional period.

The result lifts Manly to sixth and leaves the Raiders two points outside the top eight in ninth.

In the day's other match, Penrith Panthers stormed to a 38-0 win at Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Panthers scored seven tries, with Mitch Rein crossing twice and Nathan Cleary contributing 14 points.

Penrith are now 10th and on a three-match winning run, while Canterbury's fourth defeat on the spin leaves them down in 13th.
