Frantic players flee roof collapse in one-month-old gym

It took just 40 centimetres of snow to down the roof of a newly constructed gym in a Czech Republic town.

Youth floorball players and fans were forced to run for their lives over the weekend when referee Jiri Nemec noticed a problem.

Pardubice Region governor Martin Netolicky was disappointed that the stadium collapsed.

"Sloppy, irresponsible and frivolity," he wrote on Facebook.

Netolicky said the gym, which was only opened in the first days of January, already had "issues with fire regulations".

The roof collapsed just one month after the gym was built.

"I am very sorry for what happened. But I'm honestly glad nobody got hurt," he said.

"Thank you for the quick reaction game referee Jiri Nemec, who reacted swiftly and ordered an immediate cleaning the gym. Likely to prevent the disaster."

It was estimated that 80 people were in the gym at the time.
