US teen nails world first to win Thredbo big air competition

US teen free skier Alex Hall has taken out the One Hit Wonder Big Air competition with a world first trick.

The 17-year-old nailed a switch triple corked 1800, the first time the trick has ever been landed in competition.

Hall was one of 18 of the best free skiers in the world who descended upon Thredbo over the weekend for the event.

The skiers launch themselves off a 95-foot jump spinning and twisting as much as possible.

Spills have consequences but the rewards are worth it.

Norwegian teen sensation Birk Rudd came in a close second with another world first, switch corked 1620.

The podium was rounded out by the current 2016 X-Game Gold medallist, Swiss skier Fabian Bösch who landed a clean triple corked 1620 of his own.
