Diver’s spectacular belly flop blooper

In sport there’s often a very fine line between success and failure, as diver Ahmad Amsyar Azman unfortunately illustrated at the Rio Olympics.

The Malaysian aimed high in the 3m springboard event, but fell spectacularly to see his Olympic hopes come crashing down almost as hard as him.

Azman completely mistimed the entry on his dive, and after performing several twists and turns, came thudding down into the water belly-first.

The only thing more depressing about watching someone’s dreams quite literally take a nose-dive, was the look on Azman’s face when the scores came in and the realization set in that he wouldn’t progress to the next round.

At least he can take consolation from the fact it wasn’t the worst dive of the Rio Games; that ‘honour’ would certainly go to Russian Nadezhda Bazhina whose calamitous back-slap saw her score zero points.
