2024 Golfweek Awards: Male Amateur of the Year
It was a special year for men's amateur golfers.
When it came to selecting Golfweek's Male Amateur of the Year, there were plenty of candidates to choose from, but one stood out among the rest. This player had a summer for the ages, one that set the stage and raised the bar for what to expect from him in the coming years.
The 2024 Golfweek Award winner for Male Amateur of the Year goes to ...
Winner: Luke Clanton
Clanton started his year becoming the first Florida State golfer ever to win three straight events. He then dominated on the PGA Tour, earning a pair of runner-up finishes and vaulting into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking. All in all, it was a year that's likely to earn Clanton full status on the PGA Tour by the summer thanks to PGA Tour University Accelerated.
Honorable mention: Josele Ballester
Ballester became the first winner of the U.S. Amateur from Spain, overcoming the partisan crowd to American Noah Kent and a late charge from Kent on the back nine to win.
Honorable mention: Wenyi Ding
Not only did Ding win the Asia-Pacific Amateur and Southern Amateur, he set an NCAA scoring record in his second collegiate start at Arizona State.
Honorable mention: Jackson Koivun
Koivun had an incredible freshman year at Auburn, winning the Haskins Award as Player of the Year and guiding the Tigers to their first national championship.
