Kiwis furious over Rugby World Cup promo snub
New Zealand rugby officials have accused World Cup organisers of playing silly buggers after the Kiwis were left off a map of the world featured on a promo for next year’s tournament.
The Kiwis have been left of maps in the past, but this is a particulary significant oversight given the All Blacks are the top-ranked team in the world, and current World Cup holders.
The map is displayed in an email from Cup organisers, promoting “21 Days before tickets go on sale”:
The New Zealand Herald is particularly upset, asking: “Are the hosts of the next year’s Rugby World Cup playing mind games with the All Blacks?”
“First we suffered the indignity of no All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup ad.
“Now, it seems, the organisers of the World Cup are keen to pretend New Zealand doesn’t even exist.”
To compensate, the Herald created their own world map according to the current world rankings, and New Zealand certainly is hard to miss:
But the Kiwis aren’t the only ones missing from the map.
Much to the embarrassment of Cup organisers, tournament hosts England and the rest of the UK also failed to feature.
