New racing car bears striking resemblence to Batmobile

Nissan has unveiled its new endurance race car - and it bears a striking resemblance to the Batmobile.

The DeltaWing racecar mimics the design of the model the Caped Crusader used in 1989 film ‘Batman’ and is intended to feature at this year’s Le Mans 24Hours race.

The driver’s seat is positioned practically in line with the rear wheels behind the car’s long nose. Despite only boasting a 1.6 litre engine, it’s turbocharged and packs 300 horsepower.

Nissan claims that the model can afford a reduction in engine size as it is aerodynamically designed to use half the fuel of typical Le Mans racers.

Nissan hinted that similar technology could be used on its conventional production cars.

“As motor racing rulebooks have become tighter over time, racing cars look more and more similar and the technology used has had less and less relevance to road car development,” said Nissan’s Andy Palmer.

“Nissan DeltaWing aims to change that and we are delighted to have become part of the project”.

DeltaWing will be taken to Le Mans in June by drivers Marino Franchitti and Michael Krumm, although the vehicle is not eligible to compete for silverware as it does not conform to regulations race organisers have set.
