Beard Today, Gone Tomorrow

Over the last year I have seen Gi Singh at many triathlon events around New South Wales. I think the first time I saw him was on a Saturday morning cycling around Centennial Park, Sydney in yellow budgie smugglers with no shirt on. Unbelievable! That was my reaction and that of the people I was training with.

Gi carries it off though. If I decided to train in budgies I would get laughed out of town. Gi looks fantastic with his long hair, beard and dark skin against the bright coloured budgie smugglers.

The big question is: What would he look like if he shaved his beard off?

Those of us who were in the finish chute at Ironman Australia this year and saw Gi’s finish dance saw that he has got the moves as well. We have pretty much seen a lot of Gi. What we have never seen is his face! It is because he has never shaved his beard before.

This year Gi is raining money for the Childhood Cancer Foundation. He is doing this because of a special woman from Adelaide.

The triathlon community is getting together and will shave Ironman Gi Singh at Busselton. Ironman Gi has decided to shave his virgin beard and beautiful locks to honour Ironman triathlete Dani 'Fezza' Taylor, who is battling cancer.

Gi says "Dani's positive attitude even at the worst possible times is truly inspirational. I remember her put a brave face and cheer us all day long at Ironman Australia. Whatever she's going through is absolutely unfair. To honour her, I wish to give something I really love, i.e., my unshorn hair."

As per Dani's wish, Childhood Cancer Association is the official charity of this fundraiser. If you know someone close who has been affected by cancer, please show your support by making a donation.

Since Gi has never shaved before, let's help him out with his first shave at the Busselton Jetty on 6th December 2010 at 4:00PM, right after the Ironman beer mile. There are people who reckon he will look like Emma Snowsill! Be there (at least in the spirit), it's going to be fun.

Events Gi has competed in recently include:

Nepean Triathlon 2010
Noosa Triathlon 2010
Gold Coast Half Ironman Triathlon 2010
Forster Olympic Distance Triathlon 2010
Western Sydney Duathlon Series
Sri Chinmoy Sydney Series - Race 5
Triathlon Nsw Club Championships 2010
Port Macquarie Ironman 2010
Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim 2009
Port Macquarie Half Ironman 2009
Gold Coast Half Ironman Triathlon 2009
