People don't always perform - just ask my wife: Hardwick

You could never accuse Richmond coach Damien Hardwick of resorting to tired sporting clichés at his press conferences.

On Tuesday, Hardwick lightened the mood with an unusual analogy when asked why his side hadn't performed at their best in their loss to Collingwood on Saturday.

"It happens all the time; sometimes I like to make love to my wife (but) don't perform to the highest standard," Hardwick said to the laughter of the media.

Hardwick was quick to put his serious face back on, saying his players had to prepare better at training to ensure their performances wouldn't drop off during matches.

Speaking of serious, we can only guess the reception he got from Mrs Hardwick when he returned home that night.
