Zidane to Bayern? Kahn sees Real Madrid boss as perfect fit

Zinedine Zidane would “fit perfectly” at Bayern Munich if he fancies stepping away from Real Madrid this summer, says Oliver Kahn.

The Bundesliga champions already know that they will be back in the market for a new boss at the end of the season.

Jupp Heynckes has rejuvenated them since taking the reins for a fourth time, but he has made it clear since succeeding Carlo Ancelotti that he will only honour a short-term deal.

Bayern will be looking to land another proven performer when their top job becomes vacant, and club legend Kahn would love to see the iconic figure chasing down a third successive Champions League win with Real Madrid head to the Allianz Arena.

The world-class former goalkeeper told ZDF on an imminent search for a new boss: “Zinedine Zidane is undoubtedly worth considering. I think he's sensational.

“He has won everything with Real Madrid and can win his third Champions League title.

“He's a coach who fits perfectly Bayern Munich's requirement profile.”

Zidane recently stated his desire to remain with Real past the end of the current campaign, but acknowledges that his future will be dictated by results.

Were he to end 2017-18 empty-handed, then the Blancos may decide to move in a different direction.

That could open the door to Bayern, with Kahn confident that Zidane could succeed in Bavaria despite those at the Allianz Arena having previously expressed a desire to appoint a German-speaking coach.

He added: “He is French and can speak Spanish, so he could learn German.

“The question is more what can he do extremely well? He can manage a star-studded squad, he was an absolute world star himself, and while many former top players don't go on to become great coaches, he has.”

Zidane is tied to a contract in Madrid which is due to run until 2020, but Real have adopted a revolving door policy when it comes to managers over the years and likely would have no issue parting with a club legend should he fail to deliver on expectations.
