Gucci’s global makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver reveals his game-changing trick.
The ideal concealer does more than just cover up: it blurs, brightens, and lifts, all while seamlessly matching your natural skin tone. Gucci Beauty’s recently launched Concentré de Beauté ($47) hits all of these marks and then some. For proof, look no further than the Gucci runways and campaigns, for which Gucci’s global makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver has been making full use of the multi-faceted formula.
“I think what makes it so amazing is this idea of creating a second skin, a real skin effect,” says de Kluyver. "What’s so incredible about this concealer is that it’s super lightweight, so you can use it under your eyes and it’s like a brightener, and at the same time it’s heavy enough to cover blemishes.” The concealer goes on best with the help of the applicator, dots of product integrated with fingertips for seamless coverage. “It also works nicely with a fluffy little brush,” says De Kluyver.
Taking things into sculpted territory is De Kluyver’s tried-and-true application method. “One little dot on the inner corner of the eye, one little dot on the outer corner of the eye, a little dot on the side of the nose, a little dot at the corners of the lip, then I blend it out with my finger,” he says. “I feel like this kind of lifts the whole face—it’s kind of like a secret mini facelift.”
Another key tip when it comes to concealer is finding a pitch-perfect shade that’s a touch brighter than your skin tone. “When I’m picking concealer I usually like to go with something a tiny bit lighter because I like to brighten a little bit,” says de Kluyver, adding that he tends to invest in an additional concealer that’s an exact match for fuller coverage. Leaving no shade unaccounted for, Concentré de Beauté comes in forty different shades divided into five color categories (light, light/medium, medium, medium/dark, dark), then further separated by undertone. What’s more: It contains black rose oil and hyaluronic acid for hydration, is buildable and long-lasting, and ideal for on-the-go touch-ups. Say hello to your complexion’s new secret weapon.
