Woman reveals fans' heartless act after horror golf mishap

A woman left blind in one eye after being hit by a golf ball at the Ryder Cup has condemned fellow spectators over a heartless act.

Frenchwoman Corine Remande, 49, is suing tournament organisers after she was struck by a tee shot from Brooks Koepka on Friday.

She’s been left furious over the actions of fellow fans around her, who she claims were too busy taking photos of her to offer any help.

She says she feared being trampled while lying on the ground in agony.

“Before being moved, in a big mess, I was afraid of being trampled because Tiger Woods was coming and the crowd was growing around us,” she said on Wednesday.

“What shocked me too was that the spectators were taking pictures of me, but no one was calling for help.”

Ms Remande suffered a fractured eye socket and damaged eyeball, resulting in the loss of sight.

She told BBC News on Friday that a handful of concerns have made her “very angry” in the aftermath of the allegedly life-threatening incident.

She is charging officials with failing to: 1) provide proper safety warnings on tickets; 2) alert spectators about the incoming ball; 3) convey to fans that players were trying to drive the green on the par-4 sixth hole; and 4) check on her at the hospital.

European Tour officials countered all her claims, telling BBC that: 1) tickets clearly state safety concerns; 2) “fore” was yelled multiple times on Koepka’s drive; 3) they are not informed of a player strategy prior to tee shots; and 4) they have been in contact with Remande’s family since the incident.

Koepka ‘heartbroken’ over horror accident

The 28-year-old American, the US Open and PGA Championship winner, said he was heartbroken to hear a woman struck by his one of his tee shots at the Ryder Cup last week might lose vision in her right eye.

“No one feels worse about this than I do. It’s a tragic accident,” said Koepka, adding he has been trying to get in touch with Remande.

“I’m heartbroken and all messed up inside. It’s sad and I really am torn up about it.

“She’s not going to be able to see out of her eye ever again. All because I hit a golf ball. This is definitely the one shot in my career that I am going to regret.”
