Winx surpasses Black Caviar with record-breaking win

Winx has made more Australian racing history, surpassing Black Caviar’s record streak with a thrilling come-from-behind win at Randwick.

On Saturday, Winx secured her 26th-straight win and Group One victory No.19 in the 1400m Winx Stakes – the race named in her honour.

Winx defeated Invictus Prince and D’Argento as trainer Chris Waller sets his sights on winning a fourth Cox Plate with the champion racemare.

It’s also the 30th win of Winx’s career, becoming just the 14th horse in history to achieve that remarkable feat.

The win also takes her career earnings just shy of $20 million.

Bruce McAvaney pointed out afterwards that Winx is just the first seven-year-old mare to win a Group 1 since triple Melbourne Cup-winning marvel Makybe Diva in 2005.

Her next race is likely to be the $500,000 Group 1 George Main Stakes.

It was the second win of the day for jockey Hugh Bowman, who kicked off the meet with a win aboard timid gelding Butchoy in the TAB Highway Plate.
