Extraordinary $1 million detail in photo of Roger Federer's wife

Roger Federer may have made the Wimbledon final, but for many it was wife Mirka who stole the limelight.

As TV cameras constantly crossed to Mirka to show her reaction to a number of massive points, eagle-eyed viewers were completely taken by the size of the engagement ring she was wearing.

The massive rock could be seen hanging from Mirka’s finger as she put her hands to her head, showing the stress of the situation.

Fans flocked to social media to talk about the ring, and a jewellery expert has now estimated the value of the enormous rock.

“At first glance, I would say that it is an Emerald Cut, which is a very exotic touch,” said Lazar Cebbar, owner of Elizza in Zurich.

“The size is not only difficult to determine, because I know Mrs Federer personally.

“I guess the diamonds to 7.0 carat, if not more.

“The price of the piece is in the range of about half a Million Swiss francs. It would not surprise me however, if the stone... reached a value of over a Million francs.

“In any case, it is a rarity in this purity of a diamond is very rare.”

To put that into context, one million Swiss Francs is about $1.45 million.

Commentator’s ‘inappropriate’ remarks about Mirka

Mirka was at the centre of controversy during the Wimbledon final, when BBC commentator and former British player Andrew Castle was slammed for what many thought were ‘inappropriate’ comments about her jewellery.

“Doesn’t look like costume jewellery, does it, on the finger?” he said.

TV viewers were fuming that Castle felt the need to comment on Mirka’s appearance, rather than what was taking place on the court.
