Thanasi Kokkinakis is out of Wimbledon after going down to Juan Martin del Potro 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-4.

The South Australian became another Australian to exit in the first round after the 29th-seeded Argentine secured victory with his seventh match point.

NOT HAPPY: Fans slam Tomic after crashing out of Wimbledon

Kokkinakis fought valiantly and was praised for his courageous effort, but joins Nick Kyrgios, Jordan Thompson, Bernard Tomic, John Millman, Andrew Whittington and Ashleigh Barty as first-round casualties.

Thompson also fought hard but lost in straight sets to Albert Ramos-Viñolas 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Tomic, a former quarter-finalist at Wimbledon, had thrashed Zverev only last week in Eastbourne, but slumped to a 6-4 6-3 6-4 defeat in just 84 minutes.

Tomic complained of hurting his back in the warm-up but even his victorious opponent was left surprised by the ease of his passage through to the second round.
