Williams: Paez not ready to be Kaizer Chiefs' 20-goal season striker
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mark Williams does not believe that Gustavo Paez will be the man to lead the club’s attack next season as he still needs to acclimatize to conditions of the South African game.
“Listen, I think now is not the right time for him to do that because he came a little bit late and he still needs to acclimatize to the South African game,” Williams told Goal.
Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has been quoted saying that the 26-year-old, who was signed in January 2017 after impressing on trials will be their go to man in the attack and be their 20-goal season man.
That is an assertion that Williams does not agree with at all as the forward will found it tough to deal with smart South African defenders.
“A lot of South African defenders like to take their time on the ball. So, for someone like me, I would have scored a lot of goals, if I was still playing because South African defenders do not get rid of the ball quickly. They try to dribble and play their way out of defence,” Williams said.
“So if they are like that put pressure on them so that they make mistakes," he stressed.
"If you can check, Paez scored most of his goals like that, but he needs to play with a striker that can take the pressure off him. So, that he can do his runs off the ball,” Williams concluded.
