Why were MAFS Australia's Lauren and Jono cut from friends and family week?

This week on Married At First Sight Australia, we've seen the return of the one of the most awkward and downright savage parts of the experiment - friends and family week. This phase of the experiment, as the name suggests, sees all the cast members' nearest and dearest come and visit them in their new apartments and see how they're doing with married life. However, one couple we didn't get to see much of this week is Lauren and Jono.

So did their friends and family just not turn up? Did they have an argument so shocking it couldn't be shown on TV? Well, no in fact it was the opposite. Lauren and Jono's friends and family scenes were cut from the final edit of the series, because they were too "boring".

The couple did in fact film scenes with their friends and family for the show, and we get approximately seven seconds of screen time of the couple toasting with wine glasses, before they're cut off and the other couples' meet ups are given priority.

A production insider told Yahoo! Lifestyle the couple's scenes were judged as "too boring" to make the final cut for the two episodes that focuses on the visits.

"Nothing interesting happened during the lunch so the producers decided to scrap the scene altogether," they explained.

A friend of Lauren's was supposed to show up for the lunch with Jono and Lauren, however her appearance was cancelled last minute and they just filmed the lunch with someone on Jonathan's side.

Last week during a tense dinner party Jack called for Jono to put a "muzzle" on Lauren during the dinner, which led to outrage from viewers, the experts and Lauren. With the experts later calling out Jonathan out at the commitment ceremony for not defending Lauren, with John Aiken saying: "If someone said that to me about my wife, I would not back down. I would come out full throttle, all guns blazing.”

Given the previously dramatic week Lauren and Jonathan had we're surprised we didn't get to see more developments between the couple, although if things were going so well they were boring, that can only be a good thing right?
