Matildas McKenzie Arnold and Tameka Yallop were part of a West Ham United team that pulled off a surprise 2-0 win away to Manchester City in the Women's Super League.

City, last season's runners-up, had 20 shots, seven on target, but could not get past inspired Australia international Arnold.

Dagny Brynjarsdottir broke the deadlock with a header six minutes before the break and the Hammers defended bravely before Yui Hasegawa added a second goal in stoppage time to seal the win.

Yallop had a chance to double the visitors' lead in the second half but she was thwarted by City's goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

City's Matildas players Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy were both unavailable for the injury-hit hosts, who have now lost three league games in a row to sit ninth in the 12-team standings.

West Ham rose to fourth after successive wins - on seven points.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Everton also won with Spurs going second behind Arsenal on goal difference.

Sam Kerr's Chelsea are third.
