West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth: Hammers get lucky to advance into third round
West Ham got lucky as they saw off fellow Premier League side Bournemouth to move into the third round of the Carabao Cup.
If VAR had been in use at this stage of the competition, the Hammers' winning goal would surely have been disallowed after Mohammed Kudus' shot bounced off the arm of Jarrod Bowen and into the net.
But West Ham will not be complaining and will just be relieved to have got through a tricky tie against an impressive Bournemouth.
The visitors were the better side for large periods. Marcus Tavernier hit the post with an inswinging free-kick. He also forced a good save from Lukasz Fabianski, who also did well to keep out Ouattara's clever flick when the ball was behind him.
Bowen had forced a good save from Cherries goalkeeper Neto, who had earlier easily dealt with a header from Niclas Fullkrug in the German striker's first start for the club following his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.
But Neto could not stop West Ham scoring in the 88th minute as the match approached a penalty shootout with the Hammers now able to look forward to an away tie at Liverpool in the next phase.
