For the first time in over a year, we are seeing the return of Wendy Williams in her new Lifetime documentary Where is Wendy Williams?
The documentary, set to premiere on Lifetime over two nights, February 24 and 25, was filmed over the two years following Williams’ exit from The Wendy Williams Show in 2021. It captures Williams’ struggles after she was placed under a financial guardianship and her hit talk show was unexpectedly canceled. Per Lifetime. “Opening the doors to her private life like never before, cameras chronicled her comeback journey to reclaim her life and legacy despite facing health issues and personal turbulence.”

“Since I was six years old, all I wanted was to be famous,” Williams says in a voiceover heard over chants of fans and behind-the-scenes footage of her talk show.
Lifetime was granted unprecedented access by Williams to film her and her family.
“Wendy has been part of the Lifetime family for over a decade and during that time, we partnered with Wendy for her revealing biopic and doc,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and Head of Programming, A&E, Lifetime and LMN. “But her story is not finished. There is so much more to it. Nobody truly knew the depths of Wendy’s reality so we hope that what our cameras captured can help shine a light on what she is facing now.”
At one point in the documentary, Williams is seen needing breaks to help to stand on the set of her talk show. A family member says “she was put in front of a judge and given a guardian” when her personal health and issues became too much for her. “That was when they took her away from us,” he adds.
“This was a complex project – and it became a labor of love for everyone involved,” said executive producer Mark Ford, Creature Films. “We are grateful to Wendy and her family for their utmost commitment to honesty, even when painful – in this documentary.”
At other points in the trailer, Williams shares “I have no money,” “I have no family”, and in an apparent address to fans she says “Let me tell you something, if it happens to me, it can happen to you.”
On Friday, February 23, Lifetime will encore Williams’ biopic, Wendy Williams: The Movie and her 2021 documentary, Wendy Williams: What a Mess.
Throughout the airing of the program and on Lifetime’s social media platforms, Lifetime will direct viewers to resources including SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), NAMI for Mental Health Resources, and information and resources for Graves’s Disease and Lymphedema.
