Brisbane coach Kevin Walters isn't asking for anything extra from young half Brodie Croft against former club Melbourne despite the increasing pressure from Tom Dearden for his spot.
The Broncos will fly to Melbourne for the Good Friday NRL clash with the Storm following a disrupted week that included a sudden shift to Sydney after Brisbane was placed in a three-day COVID lockdown on Monday.
Croft will be making his return to AAMI Park after joining Brisbane at the end of 2019 after four seasons with the Storm.
With calls increasing for 20-year-old Dearden to be given a shot in the No.7 jersey for the Broncos, Walters says he just wants Croft to build on his display in last week's drought-breaking 24-0 win over Canterbury.
"I thought he had a strong game last week Brodie, created some good opportunities and also some that he did miss and didn't take so we've spoken about that, particularly around his communication with the forwards and setting up the play," Walters said.
"Defensively, he's been very strong as well which he'll need to be again.
"We're looking forward to a similar performance, particularly that second 40 (minutes) from the Broncos against the Bulldogs, where we controlled the ball and controlled the tempo of the game."
Another player who'll be eager to impress is damaging prop Payne Haas, who'll be making his first appearance of the campaign after a three-game suspension for an off-field indiscretion during pre-season.
Walters says the return of Haas and fellow prop Matt Lodge will give the Broncos much-needed grunt against the defending premiers.
"I saw some comments from Payne through the week that he feels that he owes the team. Certainly, it's just great to have him back," Walters said.
"He's a great guy to bring back in the side. A powerful forward. He's a representative player, so him and Matt Lodge for that matter, both will add plenty of grunt to our forwards.
"We'll welcome them back with open arms, particularly against the Storm who, we know, have one of the best packs in the competition."
