The Melbourne Vixens remain undefeated after two rounds of Super Netball, claiming a tough 63-61 win over the NSW Swifts on Sunday.
The Vixens looked in control after opening a six-goal lead in the second quarter at Hisense Arena but the Swifts stormed back to hit the front at halftime and lead by three early in the final quarter.
But the Vixens held their nerve in the closing stages to close out the win and join West Coast Fever and the Giants as the only unbeaten teams in the competition.
An ankle injury forced Vixens goal defence Jo Weston from the court in the first quarter but the Australian defender returned late in the third to help inspire a final-term turnaround.
Vixens shooter Mwai Kumwenda made all 34 of her goal attempts with Tegan Philip hitting 29 of 32.
Sam Wallace finished with 37 of 38 shooting for the Swifts while England international Helen Housby missed just one of her 25 attempts.
The visitors opened with the first three goals of the match but Melbourne quickly drew level before reeling off five unanswered goals to build a 17-12 advantage at quarter time.
The two teams went goal for goal through the second quarter but when the Vixens reshuffled their line-up to cover the Weston injury, the Swifts outscored them 9-4 in the final five minutes to take a 32-31 lead into halftime.
The Swifts extended the lead to three after the break but with Weston returning to the action, the Vixens forced a pair of turnovers to regain momentum and close the third quarter ahead 48-47.
The visitors struck back with the opening four goals of the final quarter but with Weston providing plenty of drive and Emily Mannix holding up in defence, the Vixens edged ahead for good with four minutes to play.
The Vixens will shoot for three straight wins when they host the Queensland Firebirds on Saturday afternoon while the Swifts face off against the Giants on Sunday.
