Usain Bolt's one bizarre request for Mariners trial

He might be bringing all of his star power with him to Australia, but Usain Bolt isn’t after any superstar treatment when he arrives for a trial period with A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

In fact, the Jamaican has requested just one thing – that his Hyundai hire car be black.

Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp confirmed the bizarre request to The Daily Telegraph, but stressed Bolt will be treated like any other trialist.

“We’ve had no requests for private bodyguards, personal masseurs, chauffeurs,” Mielekamp said.

“The one thing we’ve been really firm on is that Usain, while trialling for a contract, be treated the same as any player.

“Obviously, we understand the realities of having somebody of his profile. But there will be no advantages.

“And that’s what Bolt wants — this is about his football journey.”

Bolt will touch down in Sydney on Saturday and is expected to arrive alone before linking up with his agent, who is already in Australia.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist has committed to an indefinite training period with the Mariners as he looks to secure a professional contract in the A-League.

“I hope I can make a positive contribution to the club and look forward to meeting the other players, staff and fans in the coming weeks,” Bolt said last week.

“I always say that ‘anything is possible, don’t think limits’ and I look forward to the challenge.”
