United's Pledger out of NBL until new year

Melbourne United centre Alex Pledger will not play in the NBL again until at least January

Melbourne United centre Alex Pledger has undergone surgery to repair a right ankle injury.

He's expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks, returning to NBL action in early January.

New Zealand international Pledger has been dealing with a right ankle issue which has limited his flexibility and power when pushing off his right leg.

It has also limited the 32-year-old's ability to train, with medical staff managing his workload.

A recent MRI showed a bone spur that could only be resolved with surgery, with Pledger going under the knife on Monday.
