Unexpected twist after thief caught on video ripping tree out of the ground

A man has been filmed uprooting and stealing a large plant from a residence in Sydney’s south.

Bronte Fenwick, of Caringbah, shared video of the moment the man walks up the driveway at her home on February 22 about 11.20am.

He walks up to a plant, uproots it and walks off.

Ms Fenwick shared the video in the hopes the man responsible would return the plant – a frangipani.

She told Yahoo7 the theft was “very, very strange”.

“If he had come up and asked for us to cut some off, we definitely would have given some to him,” she said.

“I think that’s it’s a little bit of a low life thing to do.”

The unusual video has many on Facebook perplexed too.

“Who steals a frangipani?” one man wrote.

“Must be a good tree.”

Ms Fenwick later told Yahoo7 the plant was returned on Tuesday after she found it on her front porch – more than a week after it was stolen.

“Look it’s a very weird one, but at least he did the right thing and brought it back,” she said.

NSW Police confirmed they were investigating.
