Activewear powerhouse Under Armour has unveiled the second generation of its women's basketball shoe, another monumental step in the Baltimore-based company's efforts to fuse innovation with technology.

"I love the fact that Under Armour has a shoe strictly for the female athletes," University of Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese said to Yahoo Sports about the UA Flow Breakthru 2 basketball shoes. "Women move differently. It's been proven that a women's foot is more flexible and has sensory reflectors. The Breakthru 2 is more lightweight and also has this unusual grip that really prevents skidding or slipping."

Also speaking with Yahoo Sports, Dallas Wings star Tyasha Harris toted Under Armour's bouncy Flow technology as one of many reasons why she endorses the sneaker.

"The Breakthru 2 has a lot of grip. It allows us to cut and plant easily, which is a great thing for women in general. I really like how Under Armour has really taken our feedback to heart to make the shoe better each time. It make me feel like I'm a part of the design process and contributing to the growth of women's apparel and footwear."

As an Under Armour athlete, Harris said the UA Flow Breakthru 2 pair well with several of her other favorite UA products like the Infinity Bra and ultra-soft shirts from the Tom Brady collection.

Coach Frese is entering her 20th season with the Terrapins, so not only has she seen the growth of women's basketball, but also the corresponding footwear and apparel developed to help athletes play to their full potential.

"When basketball shoes first came out, they were thicker and clunkier. I mean, you could hear every screech on the court," she joked. "As you've seen the women's game evolve at both the collegiate and professional level, having these dynamic shoes where 6'4" post players are able to cut on a dime and see their speed and athleticism on display is great. They're much more comfortable and not everyone has to wear a high-top."

The veteran manager makes an excellent point. Not only is the Breakthru 2 extremely lightweight, but the half-bootie molded collar constructions promises an incredible fit and anatomically correct support. In addition to a breathable mesh upper, other highlights include a 3D-molded TPE-blend sockliner with low compression set for energy return and Pebax shank that provides midfoot stability.

Available in nine colorways, the UA Flow Breakthru 2 sneakers retail for $120 and are available to shop below, at Under Armour's retail site and Dick's Sporting Goods.
