Two jockeys hospitalised after horror fall during race
Brian Higgins and Brad Rawiller have both suffered a number of serious injuries after a scary fall in Victoria.
Both jockeys are in a stable condition in Alfred Hospital after a race fall at Cranbourne on Sunday.
Rawiller has fractured his C4 and C5 vertebrae and collarbone while Higgins has fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.
The two will undergo further tests after coming down in the fourth race on Sunday.
Both horses are reported to have escaped injury.
Racing Victoria stewards made the call to postpone the rest of Sunday’s meeting.
“With our consultation with the riders and their concern for the welfare of their colleagues, the decision has been made to postpone the remainder of the meeting,” RV steward James Hitchcock told broadcaster racing.com.
The fall came a day after after visiting West Australian jockey Willie White suffered four fractured ribs and a fractured sternum in a fall at Avoca.
Thoughts with Brad Rawiller & Brian Higgins – news just through Brad has neck fractures to C4 & C5 vertebrae, collarbone & severe bruising and lacerations. Brian Higgins has fractured ribs & collapsed lung with more tests to be done. Was a shocking fall! @RSN927 @7NewsMelbourne
