Top seed Denis Shapovalov has fallen to a fourth straight defeat, crashing out of the Sofia Open.

The 21-year-old Canadian, topping the seedings at an ATP Tour event for the first time, was beaten 6-2 6-4 by Radu Albot to end his hopes of finishing the year in the world's top 10.

Moldovan Albot will face either fifth seed Adrian Mannarino or Belarusian Egor Gerasimov in the quarter-finals.

Fourth seed Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany was also sent packing, beaten 6-3 6-4 by Canada's Vasek Pospisil.

Italian youngster Jannik Sinner survived a late comeback attempt from Marton Fucsovics to book his place in the second round.

The 19-year-old led 6-2 4-1 but was forced to save break point at 4-4 in the second set.

However, he broke serve in the final game to eliminate last year's runner-up 6-2 6-4.

There were also wins for French duo Richard Gasquet and Gilles Simon.

Simon will now meet Australian John Millman for a place in the quarter-finals while No.3 seed Alex De Minaur takes on Aslan Karatsev.
