Toney heads for Saudi, Sterling and Sancho join rivals

Brentford have accepted a StG40 million ($A78m) offer from Al-Ahli for striker Ivan Toney, with the deal on course for completion in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

The England forward had also attracted interest from Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, but is now set for a medical ahead of completing a move to the Saudi Pro League outfit.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his Brentford deal and has yet to feature in a matchday squad this season ahead of a potential move away from West London.

Al-Ahli have also reportedly agreed a deal with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but it is uncertain if signing Toney will affect their move for the Nigeria forward.

On a busy final few hours in the transfer market, Arsenal signed Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan, the Premier League clubs announced in the early hours of Saturday.

The England international had been frozen out of the Chelsea squad by new manager Enzo Maresca.

Although the deal was not completed before Friday's 11pm deadline, a deal sheet was submitted for a two-hour extension which allowed Arsenal to sign Sterling, who made 81 appearances for Chelsea but has not played in the new campaign.

Chelsea signed Sterling from Manchester City in a deal worth up to STG50 million pounds in 2022 but the 29-year-old was told in no uncertain terms by Maresca he would not get any playing time and was welcome to seek a move to another club.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had said earlier this month he admired Sterling, having worked with the winger during his time as assistant coach at Manchester City.

Sterling's capture will give Arsenal depth on the left wing where he will compete with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard for a spot in the starting lineup.

Manchester United signed Uruguay defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for an an initial Stg 42m ($A81m).

The Red Devils also off-loaded midfielder Jadon Sancho to rivals Chelsea on a season-long loan.

The BBC reported Chelsea have an obligation to make the move permanent for a fee of STG20-25 million pounds ($A39-48m).

Sancho joined United in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract, but had a public falling-out with manager Erik ten Hag last year which led to him returning to Dortmund on loan in January this year until the end of the season.

Napoli also announced the signing of Scott McTominay from United.

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan. Neto's imminent arrival in north London has allowed England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to complete a permanent switch to Southampton.

Wolves have signed another England goalkeeper with Sam Johnstone joining from Crystal Palace on a four-year contract, with the 31-year-old costing a reported Stg10m ($A19m) fee.

James Ward-Prowse is reportedly undergoing a medical at Nottingham Forest ahead of a season-long loan deal from West Ham.

Everton striker Neal Maupay has joined Marseille on loan for the 2024-25 season, with the French club having an obligation to buy the 28-year-old at the end of the campaign.

Tammy Abraham, who has earned 11 senior caps for England, is also on the move after joining AC Milan on loan from Roma.
