Rain stops play in Tas-NSW Shield fixture

Less than nine overs were bowled on day two of the Sheffield Shield clash between Tasmania and NSW after rain arrived in Hobart.

Tasmania were wobbling at 3-14 on Saturday before Matthew Wade strutted to the crease and crunched 146, combining with the lower order to push the hosts to 8-329 at stumps.

There were only two further overs of resistance, with Tasmania finishing on 333 on Sunday, before NSW were batting.

But after a brisk start, Blake Nikitaras and Ryan Hackney were marching off due to rain at 0-15 off 6.2 overs, with stumps eventually called without another ball being bowled.

Ben Dwarshuis (4-88) was the pick of the bowlers for NSW, while Chris Tremain took 3-52.

The Blues are without in-form opener Daniel Hughes because of COVID-19 while Jake Doran is wicketkeeping for Tasmania instead of Tim Paine, with fellow glovemen Ben McDermott and Wade playing as specialist batters.
