Tiger Woods already has better Masters odds than most of the field

Amazing what one three-second video can do.

Tiger Woods continues to recover from a catastrophic February car wreck, and on Sunday morning he posted a three-second video of himself swinging a golf club with the caption "Making progress." If you're a fan of Tiger, golf, sports or, well, humanity, it was great to see.

It was also enough to get sports books paying attention. Per BetMGM, Woods' odds to win the Masters are now listed at +4000, better than all but 18 players in the field. Yes, Tiger Woods — who may not even be able to walk 18 holes, much less play the hills of Augusta four days in a row — now has better odds than a two-time Masters winner (Bubba Watson, +6600), several of the hottest young players on Tour (Matt Fitzpatrick, +6600; Abraham Ancer, +6600), and a guy who literally won a major earlier this year (Phil Mickelson, +8000).

Obviously, this isn't an assessment of the state of Woods' game. This is a hedge against casual bettors looking to buy into Woods; Tiger has been hell on sportsbooks for the entirety of his career.

Far more important for Woods than either his performance in the Masters or his effect on sports gambling is whether he'll be able to resume a normal life. All indications are that he's well on the way to recovery; golf isn't close to the most important issue until then.
