The Match IV: Bettors like Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson to upset Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers
Nearly 90% of bettors are backing Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady on Tuesday night.
Brady and Mickelson are playing Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers in The Match IV at The Reserve at Moonlight Basin golf course in Big Sky, Montana.
The 18-hole match-play event (5 p.m. ET, TNT, TBS, TruTV) is a modified alternate-shot format. That means the players alternate shots after tee shots. The money raised from the event will go to three charities across the country.
Mickelson and Brady are backed by a lot of bettors at BetMGM because they enter the match as underdogs. DeChambeau’s and Rodgers’ betting odds have shifted from -150 at the open to -175 entering the event. Brady’s and Mickelson’s odds have, predictably, gone the other way. They’ve gone from +110 to win to now +140.
The worsening odds for the underdogs haven’t stopped people from betting on the pair. Just over 89% of tickets are on Brady and Mickelson to win and 85.2% of the handle — the total money wagered on the event — is on them to win.
The most fun hole could be the 17th, so we need to hope that the match gets to that point without a winner. No. 17 is a 777-yard par 5 and, crazily enough, could be reachable in two for both DeChambeau and Mickelson.
That’s because the golf course sits approximately 7,500 feet above sea level. The thinner air means the ball will fly further. Could we see Bryson hit a 400-yard drive?
BetMGM is also offering various prop bets on the match. You can bet on an eagle being scored at any point in the event (+1400) or even a hole-in-one at +5000. We aren’t sure you should be betting on that prop.
DeChambeau and Rodgers are at +190 to win the first hole while Mickelson and Brady are at +280. A boring tie is at just +110. If you think the match will be tied after nine holes, you should jump on the prop bet for the turn. Betting on a halfway tie is +450. A DeChambeau and Rodgers lead after nine is at -120 and Mickelson and Brady leading at halfway is +180.
