The Covert Agent: Wellington Phoenix coach Darije Kalezic faces the sack at urgent board meeting

The Bosnian-Swiss manager has been plagued by controversy and poor results during his time in New Zealand

Wellington Phoenix coach Darije Kalezic's job is hanging by a thread with his future set to be decided by a board meeting after training on Thursday.

The Covert Agent can reveal the board will ask Kalezic for an explanation of the Phoenix's current run of poor results - which includes consecutive 4-0 losses on the road to Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

It is understood a failure to explain the team's faltering form could see Kalezic relieved of his position as senior coach.

The Phoenix board backed Kalezic in a previous dispute with assistant coach Rado Vidosic , which saw the latter and his star player son Dario leave the club on December 20 last year.

Since then, Wellington have lost five of their last nine matches and questions are now being asked about Kalezic's future and suitability for the job at hand.

Wellington are currently rooted to the bottom of the A-League ladder with only three wins from 19 matches.

They host Perth Glory on Saturday night at Westpac Stadium.
