American player 'recreates' iconic tennis photo

American tennis player Lauren Davis unwillingly produced a painful re-enactment of an iconic image during her loss at the Sony Open in Miami.

During her match with world No.36 Alize Cornet, the 19-year-old was stung by a wasp on her backside.

As Davis tried to get a look at the painful sting (below), she produced a pose that was similar to Martin Elliott's legendary photo from 1976.

Elliott's photo (left), which has sold more than two million copies around the world, has become a pop culture icon, appearing in shows such as Red Dwarf and The IT Crowd.

As for Davis, she bravely finished her match but lost in three sets.
