Urszula Radwanska has avenged her loss to New Zealand tennis No.1 Marina Erakovic at Wimbledon last month by beating her in three sets in the second round of the West Classic women's tournament in California.

Radwanska, beaten in straight sets by Erakovic in the first round of the Grand Slam event, battled past the tournament's eighth seed 6-3 3-6 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals.

The sister of world No.2 Agnieszka broke Erakovic in the ninth game of the final set to serve for the match which she sealed after 2 hours 10 minutes on Friday (NZT).

The world No.50 Erakovic, ranked seven places above her opponent, was broken twice to drop the opening set before breaking the 21-year-old three times in the second set to force a decider.

The 24-year-old Aucklander managed to save five of the eight break points she offered in the final set but when a double fault gave Radwanska another chance she made no mistake to secure the decisive break.

Erakovic is still alive in the doubles after she and British partner Heather Watson toppled second seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigal Spears 7-6 2-6 10-4 in the quarter-finals on Thursday (NZT).
