Edmund shocks Dimitrov to reach semis

Edmund defeats Dimitrov to reach Aus Open semis

Kyle Edmund has defeated world No.3 Grigor Dimitrov for the biggest win of his career to reach the Australian Open semi-finals.

Edmund won 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 52 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

With Tim Henman sitting in the crowd, the 23-year-old became the sixth British male to reach the semi-finals of a grand slam.

"It's an amazing feeling, I'm so happy," he said.

Edmund, who had played two five-set matches -- including one in last week's 40-degree heat -- to reach the quarters, will face top seed Rafael Nadal or No.6 Marin Cilic in Thursday's semi-final.

The world No.49 is filling the considerable gap left by British No.1 Andy Murray, who is watching from home and impressed with Edmund's success.

Murray had made five of the last eight Australian Open finals before withdrawing from the tournament and undergoing hip surgery in Melbourne.
