Surprise caller gives radio host a piece of his mind

Melbourne radio host Tony Moclair has been given a shock dressing down over comments he made regarding men's doubles tennis.

Speaking on 3AW Melbourne overnight, Moclair spoke of his disinterest in men's doubles tennis, after presumably watching bits and pieces at the Australian Open.

Little did he know he had a pretty high-profile listener, at 12:30am in the morning.

Introducing himself as ‘Todd from East Brighton’, the caller questioned Moclair over his problems with the event.

“I heard you talking about men’s doubles tennis and I was a little disappointed to hear what you had to say,” Todd said.

Moclair then explained his issues with doubles, saying he doesn't think the court is big enough.

"I don't know what it is, I'm used to one person on either side of the net and they have the run of the whole court," Moclair said.

"When I look at it I think how do you not get in each other's way, and I just don't think the court is big enough for two people on either side of the net."

But Moclair soon became suspicious of his caller, and before he could get any further into the debate, decided to question his identity.

"Do you have any background in the sport yourself?" Moclair said.

"A little," Todd responded.

"I was just on my way home from having called a match alongside Jim Courier, and I was driving home and I couldn't help myself.

"I thought you know what, maybe I've got to educated Tony Moclair, that the Woodies, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde they were pretty good!”

Both men continued to discuss tennis and Woodbridge's continued work on the Channel 7 team, with Moclair hardly able to contain his laughter.

Woodbridge then sounded off with an important message for Moclair, that might have him thinking twice before saying anything negative about tennis on his show again.

“You never know who’s listening," Woodbridge said.
