Kyrgios and Dimitrov trade jokes in hilarious and classy speeches

Nick Kyrgios and Grigor Dimitrov were all class in their speeches after the Bulgarian won the Cincinnati Masters final in straight sets.

Dimitrov, 26, outclassed the 22-year-old Australian 6-3 7-5 to win his first Masters 1000 title.

Neither man went into the match as a heavy favourite, though Kyrgios was the giant killer after he took down the soon-to-be world No.1 Rafael Nadal in the quarter-final.

Kyrgios's serve fell short at a crucial point at 5-5 in the second set as he committed three double faults to hand Dimitrov the break that would prove decisive.

The pair shared a long embrace at the net, with the champion appearing to share some advice for a grateful Kyrgios.

Revealing he expected big things of his opponent this year, Kyrgios paid tribute to Dimitrov's mental and physical fitness and recalled a recent exchange between the two.

"Special thanks to Grigor again. I was struggling a couple of weeks ago and he got me out on the practice court," Kyrgios said.

"We practised for an hour and a half and I was struggling and he was fresh. You had me mentally today already. I was like 'I know this guy's fitter than me, I've got a lot of work to do'."

The Australian also thanked compatriot Matt Reid, who he praised as a solid presence in his corner, and his mother Nill, who has been doing his washing on tour.

Dimitrov made sure to note Nill's presence, sharing her prediction from a meeting earlier this week.

"The other day I did laundry with your mum," he said.

"I was like 'good luck'. She's like 'I think I'll see you in the final', so yeah, we're out here."

Dimitrov, who will be seeded seventh at the US Open, finished his speech by wishing Kyrgios good luck for the final grand slam of the year.

The Australian will be the No.15 seed.
