Fan forces Pliskova into bizarre retirement

A pedestal fan has caused the downfall of the unfortunate world No.44 Kristyna Pliskova at the Jiangxi Open in China.

The No.3 seed Pliskova led Japan's Nao Hibino 3-0 when the incident occurred.

SEASON OVER: What Djokovic can learn from Federer

The Czech, the twin sister of world No.1 Kristina Pliskova, attempted to move the fan when she suddenly pulled her left hand away.

She quickly asked for medical attention before sitting down and dropping her head into a towel while seemingly in serious pain.

Pliskova later updated her Instagram with a picture of the bandaged thumb.

A thumbs-up emoji accompanied the image, though it's a guess whether it was because she is in good spirits or because it is unusable for now.

A report out of the Czech Republic suggests she will miss two weeks of play while the wound heals.
