Blatter drags Federer into tax evasion scandal

Controversial former FIFA boss Sepp Blatter has made a bizarre claim about Roger Federer over football's tax evasion scandal.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is the latest football identity accused of defrauding tax authorities after Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo were also caught up in the ongoing saga.

Mourinho has been accused of defrauding authorites to the tune of €3.3 million ($4.9 million) while in charge of Spanish club Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is likely to leave Real after himself being accused of a €14.7 million ($21.7 million) tax evasion.

Blatter, whose time at the helm of FIFA was plagued by numerous corruption scandals, was being interviewed by RTS Sport recently when he dragged Swiss tennis legend Federer into the equation.

"Why do they attack the football world?" Blatter said.

"No one has said a word about one of the biggest money collectors: Federer.

"He is untouchable. I am sure he is untouchable because he does everything right.

"Also baseball and NBA stars are not attacked."

Federer resides in Wollerau, Switzerland, where he reportedly bought a $6.5 million mansion recently.

Barcelona forward Neymar and his parents were recently ordered to stand trial over alleged corruption.

An initial court statement had said Neymar and his parents were also accused of fraud, but a detailed court document seen later by AFP revealed the trio have only been charged with "business corruption."
