The omen that will spook Nadal's Wimbledon rivals

Rafael Nadal's impressive 10th French Open title may have just sent a warning to the rest of the tour ahead of the Wimbledon championships.

The Spaniard took 'La Decima' with a thumping 6-2 6-3 6-1 victory over Swiss rival Stan Wawrinka to complete a stunning two weeks in Paris.

His first grand slam win since the 2014 French Open, Nadal dropped just 35 games across his seven matches – his most dominant effort on the red dirt, improving on 2008 (41) and 2012 (53).

GREAT RIVAL: Federer pays tribute to Nadal's 10th Roland Garros title

But it was just the third time he has won at Roland Garros without dropping a set, having also done it in 2008 and 2010.

And it is what else happened in those years that should worry Roger Federer and the rest of Nadal's All-England Club foes.

Nadal defeated his Swiss rival in the 2008 French Open final and, four weeks later, went all the way at Wimbledon to defeat Federer in the final of the grass tournament for the first time.

In 2010 he took out his fifth Roland Garros title with a comfortable win over Robin Soderling.

LA DECIMA: Nadal overcome with emotion after latest win

One month on and he was celebrating his second Wimbledon triumph after easily accounting for Tomas Berdych.

Nadal dropped three sets on his way to a sixth French Open title in 2011 and would fall to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final four weeks later.

The 31-year-old has not sniffed the decider in England again since, losing in the second, first, fourth and second rounds from 2012 to 2015.

He skipped the 2016 tournament due to a long-term wrist problem, while Federer could only reach the semi-finals as Andy Murray went on to claim the title.

TONI AND RAFA: 'Without my uncle I would not have won 10 trophies'

Tennis fans are eagerly awaiting the grass season for another potential chapter in the storied Federer-Nadal rivalry.

The all-time greats returned from last year's injuries to reach the final at the Australian Open in January and the Miami Open in April, with both matches won by Federer.

But the Swiss saw Nadal's imperious form and pulled out of the clay season to concentrate on being fit for Wimbledon.
