Tomic reveals when he knew he had 'no chance' against Thiem

Bernard Tomic has revealed he knew he was no chance of challenging No.6 seed Dominic Thiem in just the fourth game of their French Open first-round match.

Thiem brushed the Australian aside in just one hour and 20 minutes for a 6-4 6-0 6-2 win, continuing his hot form earlier in the clay season.

The Austrian recorded 32 winners and just 10 unforced errors to Tomic's 16 and 33.

"He killed me from the start, from the two-all game," the world No.39 told reporters after the match.

Watch the highlights from Tomic's loss:

The Australian committed three unforced errors as Thiem held serve before breaking Tomic for the first time in the fifth game.

"I don't want to rally with Dominic Thiem, it's not my game," he said.

"I think physically everybody will see this. You just have to play, especially me, I'm not playing the game of running and playing 30 balls, that's not me.

"But I tried today and I tried to do something different, but no chance, really."

Tomic conceded the draw ruined his hopes of progressing to the second round but took heart from his performances in the lead-up tournaments.

He won three of seven matches while taking world No.6 Milos Raonic to two tiebreaks and going to three sets against No.47 Ryan Harrison and No.52 Jan Lennard Struff.

"I'm feeling pretty well," Tomic said.

"Last year I played terrible on clay and I played very well on grass. I had a chance to make quarters at Wimbledon. I was a few points away, I think 5-3 in the fifth in the fourth round against (Lucas) Pouille and played really well in Queens, making semis.

"I didn't play that good on clay last year. This year, better. Here at Roland Garros, I have played the wrong player in the first round and I lost and now I'm looking for the beautiful grass courts."

Tomic will play in Halle, Stuttgart and Eastbourne before tackling Wimbledon in the first two weeks of July.
