Aussie great's startling prediction for Tomic's future

Australian doubles great Todd Woodbridge has shared a blunt view of Bernard Tomic's future on the tennis tour, warning of a serious rankings crash.

Tomic is again missing from Australia's Davis Cup team, absent from this week's quarter-final against the United States in Brisbane.

The 24-year-old has suffered from a serious drop in form in 2017.

After making the third round at the Australian Open, he has since failed to progress at four consecutive ATP tournaments.

With the clay season beginning soon, Woodbridge believes Tomic needs to do some "soul-searching" before it is too late.

"It's never going to be a surface he'll do well on," the 22-time grand slam doubles winner told EON Sports Radio.

"He may not end up winning a match until June and by then, if he doesn't perform well at Wimbledon, his ranking's going to be outside of 100."

Tomic holds a clay-court record of just five wins and 16 losses since the start of 2014.

That, combined with his poor form on the hard courts, is a recipe for disaster, according to Woodbridge.

NOT TALKING: Kyrgios says he has not spoken to Tomic

"He'll be struggling to get into grand slams, he's already not going to be in Masters events now," he said.

"When we've watched him play he's struggled to motivate himself to be competitive. There's only one person who can turn this around, and that's Bernard."
