Cocky Coco: I was 'like a freight train'

Unseeded American Coco Vandeweghe had no shortage of confidence after her quarter-final victory, declaring she was 'like a freight train' at times against Garbine Muguruza.

Vandeweghe smashed 31 winners past the seventh seed to dominate the encounter 6-4 6-0.

"I just tried to play my best and stay within myself, keep my patterns," she said.

"She finally cracked and then once I got rolling in the second it was like a freight train, you couldn't stop it."

The immense confidence of the big-hitting American was in stark contrast to her mood before the match.

The American was extremely nervous before the encounter, revealing she had told her coach to get some toilet paper ready.

"I really wasn't feeling all that great out there, funny enough. I was really kind of nervous," she said.

"I even told my coach before better get some toilet paper out there because I'm, you know."

Vandeweghe said she would need to push aside her girlhood-adoration for Venus Williams as they meet in their next match.

"She's someone I sought after for an autograph way back when ... it took two matches to push through the crowd and get one," she said.

"It's an honour to play a great champion like Venus."
