Top seeds Monfils, Raonic march into last 16

Re-live all the Aussie Open action as we recap the biggest moments of a jam-packed Saturday.

11:30pm: Dasha sets up date with Pliskova

Daria Gavrilova has overcome a mid-match meltdown to make the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second year running.

The feisty Aussie will face a tough fourth-round opponent in Czech fifth seed Karolina Pliskova, who came back from 5-2 down in the third set to defeat Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 4-6 6-4 10-8.

9:15pm: Raonic blows Simon away

Third seed Milos Raonic has moved through to the final 16 at the Australian Open, defeating French veteran Gilles Simon in four sets.

The Canadian stumbled in the third set but regrouped to claim a 6-2 7-6 3-6 6-3 victory on Saturday night.

A semi-finalist at Melbourne Park last year, Raonic will next face Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, who earlier defeated compatriot David Ferrer in four sets.

9:10pm: Monfils move into fourth round with athletic display

Frenchman Gael Monfils has advanced to the fourth round with a 6-3 7-6 6-4 victory over Phillip Kohlschrieber.

The sixth seed's win featured a number of unbelievably athletic shots, including an incredibly leaping smash shot (watch in the video at the top of the page).

8:30pm: Nadal overcomes teen sensation

Rafael Nadal has staged an incredible comeback after teen sensation Alexander Zverev looked odds-on to send the World No.9 packing.

Nadal went down two sets to one before coming back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, 6-2 in a thriller that lasted over four hours.

Nadal said the key to the win was "fighting and running a lot".

7:50pm: Bautista Agut defeats fellow Spaniard

Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut has recorded his first ever win over compatriot David Ferrer, winning in four sets 7-5 6-7 7-6 6-4.

It's the seventh time he's reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam.

7:30: Istomin surges on

117th-ranked Denis Istomin has continued his stunning surge in the Australian Open, defeating his second seeded opponent in as many days to reach the round of 16.

The Uzbek defeated 30th seed Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4 4-6 6-4 4-6 6-2.

5:15pm: Konta sends massive statement

The ninth-seeded Brit's extraordinary run in Australia continued on Saturday as she sailed past Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-1.

Konta's humiliation of the former world No.1 was her eighth straight win since arriving in Australia, including her Sydney International triumph.

The 25-year-old is on track to replicate her breakout Australian Open semi-final appearance from last year.

3:40pm: Serena safely through

No. 2 seed Serena Williams has defeated compatriot Nicole Gibbs in straight sets to advance to the round of 16, winning 6-1 6-3.

Williams stared down every challenge from the 23-year-old Gibbs, but dropped serve for just the second time in the tournament when attempting to serve out the match.

It didn't matter as Williams broke back in the next game to close out the contest.

The 35-year-old said the victory, achieved in glorious sunshine, "felt really good" despite their off-court friendship.

3:20pm: Thiem too good for Paire

Rising Austrian star Dominic Thiem has seen off a stern challenge from Frenchman Benoir Paire to advance to the round of 16 at the Australian Open for the first time.

The eighth-seeded Thiem raced through the first set in 23 minutes on Saturday and looked on course for an easy win, only for the unseeded Paire to regroup and level the match at one set all.

Thiem was also made to work hard in the final two sets before winning 6-1 4-6 6-4 6-4.

2:40pm: Goffin goes on

German 11th seed David Goffin has advanced to the fourth round with an easy straight sets victory over 20th seed Ivo Karlovic.

Goffin won the hour and 27-minute long match 6-3 6-2 6-4.

2:20pm: Brady first to round of 16

Elena Vesnina, the 14th seed, has been eliminated from the Australian Open by unseeded American qualifier Jennifer Brady.

Brady, the world No.116, was the first woman to reach the round of 16 on Saturday with a 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 win in just 85 minutes.

2.10pm: Makarova ousts Cibulkova

What looked like a quick win for Ekaterina Makarova proved more difficult than expected as the No.30 seed coughed up a huge lead before defeating No.6 seed Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-7 (3-7) 6-3.

Makarova was just five points away from victory when she led 6-2 4-0 40-30 but Cibulkova, a former finalist here, took hold of the match.

It was all too much for the higher seed, however, as Makarova progressed with her first match-point opportunity after two hours and 53 minutes.

2.00pm: Veteran wins the battle of the unseeded

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni has come from one set down to defeat Maria Sakkari 3-6 6-2 6-3 and set up a fourth-round clash with qualifier Jennifer Brady.

The Croatian's 55 unforced errors were offset by 37 winners, while the younger Sakkari was held to just seven winners for the entire match.

Lucic-Baroni had won just one match at the Australian Open prior to this year, and that came way back in 1998; since then she had suffered seven first-round losses.

12.40pm: Strycova continues hot run

No.16 seed Barbora Strycova has comfortably defeated No.21 seed Caroline Garcia 6-2 7-5 to progress to the fourth round.

Strycova won 76 per cent of her first-serve points as Garcia committed 35 unforced errors for the match.

12.40pm: Youngster upsets No.14 seed

American qualifier Jennifer Brady has extended her dream run at the Australian Open, defeating Elena Vesnina 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.

The 21-year-old, taking part in her first grand slam as a singles player, hit 10 aces to four in the win.
