Meet the comically singing, dancing Genie Army

They dress in the colours of Canada, love a song and dance and there’s one tennis player they just can't get enough of: Eugenie Bouchard.

Meet the Genie Army.

The band of tennis fanatics follow the Canadian star around the world, and it's probably safe to say they are her number one fans.

Definitely her most vocal.

"When we first noticed her it was the fact she was young and exciting which is what we really liked about her," Genie Army member Filippe Ricciardi explains.

"She had a really unique game style that was really aggressive. Her ground strokes aren't orthodox but the way she plays is just really special."

With re-worked songs ranging from the classic Barmy Army tune to the Hokey Pokey, the group also wears t-shirts that spell out the name 'Genie' and they’re a hit wherever they go.

"Every Open she'll (Bouchard) catch up with us and say hello. We went down to Canada for the Rogers Cup in 2014 so we met her a few times.

"She's really good, she likes to contact us at times and see how we're going and vice versa, so the way she deals with fans is just remarkable."

With Bouchard enjoying a superb start to her Australian Open campaign, downing American Louisa Chirico 6-0, 6-4, it's likely the Melbourne Park faithful will be seeing a bit more of the Genie Army over the coming days.
